Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Bogota – Improvised Explosive Devices Launched near Universidad Distrital Francisco Jose de Caldas in Macarena 


Location:  Bogota  

Event:  The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that there is a concentration of hooded demonstrators in front of the facilities of Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in the Macarena neighborhood and protesters are gathering on Circunvalar road. Improvised Explosive Devices have been launched by the hooded demonstrators. Police have been dispatched to the area.  

The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid areas around demonstrations whenever possible and exercise caution when in the vicinity of large gatherings as even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without any warning.

  • Avoid protest areas.     
  • Avoid crowds and demonstrations.     
  • Monitor local media for updates.     
  • Exercise vigilance.     
  • Be aware of your surroundings.     
  • Plan for alternative travel routes.
