Press Release

In light of recent media reports, including the cover story of this week’s Semana magazine, Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg would like to clarify key points regarding our bilateral relationship with the Government of Colombia, which is as strong as it has been in our long history of cooperation.

We commend the Government of Colombia for its impressive counter narcotics results, especially its achievement in expanding coca eradication efforts and record seizures of cocaine and coca paste.  The work our two governments carry out in the fight against narco-trafficking and the illegal groups that benefit from it is extremely smooth and collaborative.

Our mutually beneficial extradition relationship and law enforcement cooperation strengthen the rule of law in both countries.  Our collaboration with the Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office plays a key role in these and other achievements, helping to create a safer and more stable region for the benefit of our citizens.  That collaboration has continued with Fiscal General Barbosa.

Colombia has no greater ally than the United States, and the United States has no better nor more capable partner and ally in the region.  We remain steadfast in our commitment to this partnership and to the people of Colombia.
