Event: Nationwide Demonstrations on July 20, 2021
The U.S. Embassy is aware of planned demonstration activities throughout Colombia on July 20, 2021, which is Colombia’s Independence Day. Demonstrations, which could turn violent, are expected in the late afternoon and evening on July 20, particularly in the following locations:
Bogota:
- Portal de las Americas
- Portal Suba
- Heroes Monument
- Plaza de Bolivar
- National University
- National Pedagogical University
- Cuban Embassy
- National Park
- Parque Virrey
There have also been reports of potential demonstrations and blockades on routes leading in and out of Bogota. Expect frequent delays and detours.
Cali:
- Demonstrations, which could turn violent, are expected throughout the city.
In other cities, the marches are expected to be concentrated in the main squares. Traffic may be adversely affected, with unexpected road closures throughout various cities.
Additionally, be advised that the nationwide demonstrations continue to impact other parts of Colombia not addressed in this notice. We will continue to monitor the protests and will provide relevant information as needed.
