Event: The U.S. Embassy is monitoring news reports of protests and marches by teacher and labor unions planned in various cities within Colombia starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024.
In Bogota, protests are expected at the Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalia) next to the U.S. Embassy, the Supreme Court building at Plaza Bolivar, Parque Nacional, and the National University. Demonstrations are also expected to take place in other cities, including Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla, Armenia, Monteria, Ibague, Riohacha, and Pasto.
The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid areas around demonstrations whenever possible and exercise caution when in the vicinity of large gatherings as even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without any warning.
