Students, labor unions, and indigenous groups are protesting government policies and funding. Additional demonstrations are scheduled for the coming weeks in urban and rural areas. U.S. citizens may encounter heavy police presence, the use of tear gas, and significant transportation delays and road blockages. Armed groups and criminal elements may seek to exploit uncertainty surrounding the strike. U.S. government personnel are advised to avoid demonstrations.
