Demonstration Alert: Motorcyclist Union
6 MINUTE READ
July 6, 2022

Location: Bogota, Colombia

The U.S. Embassy is aware of reports of a planned demonstration by the motorcyclist union set to occur on Thursday, July 7, 2022, in Bogota. The demonstrations will protest the extension of the “parrillero” passenger restriction announced by the mayor’s office. The motorcyclists will meet at “Biblioteca Virgilio Barco” (Avenida Carrera. 60 No. 57 – 60) and at the “3 Elefantes” parking lot (Avenida Boyaca and Carrera 22) at 11:00 a.m. One of the possible routes that the motorcyclists will take is Calle 26 towards El Dorado Airport where they will stop to protest. Colombian National Police anticipate around 3000 demonstrators and possible riots are expected. In the past the motorcycle associations have executed “plan Tortuga” – which involves slow moving caravans that tied up traffic throughout the city. Expect increased traffic, road blockages, and severe delays throughout the day.

The U.S. Embassy recommends avoiding areas around demonstrations/protests/marches whenever possible and exercising caution when in the vicinity of large gatherings as even peaceful demonstrations have the potential to turn violent without any warning.
