The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce Avianca Airlines will operate two humanitarian flights from El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá. The first flight is on July 7 from Bogotá (BOG) to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City, New York. The second flight is scheduled on July 8 from Bogotá to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in Atlanta, Georgia. These flights have been made available to allow U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) to return to the United States. Onward connections from AtlantaGeorgia and JFK Airport in New York are available.

If you are interested in returning to the United States, please take advantage of these flights.  U.S. citizens should return immediately to the United States, unless you are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.  

Please note that as of May 25 transport permits (salvoconductos) are no longer necessary to travel to an airport for humanitarian flights.  Instead, travelers should carry a copy of their boarding pass – physical or digital – as well as identification (e.g., cedula or passport).  If a driver is used, the driver should also carry a copy of the traveler’s boarding pass and authorization of the respective humanitarian flight.  Drivers will have up to 48 hours to travel to and from the departure airport.  If you encounter difficulties while traveling to the airport, please contact us at or (57) 1 275-2000.    


Due to current travel guidelines in the United States, individuals with visas who have been in Brazil, China, Iran, the United Kingdom (excluding overseas territories outside of Europe), the Republic of Ireland, or the Schengen Area within 14 days prior to the flight will not be allowed to board this flight.  U.S. citizens, Legal Permanent Residents, and their immediate family members who are returning home after visiting travel-restricted countries may still reenter by going through a process for enhanced medical screenings at specially designated airports.  For the most current information regarding COVID-19, the May 24 Presidential Proclamation, and its impact on travel to the United States, please visit www.dhs.govand 

Pets registered 24 hours in advance in full compliance with Avianca’s policy for animals on board will be permitted. Pets are allowed to travel in the cabin of the aircraft if they meet certain weight requirements. For more information, refer to Avianca Airlines pets on board policy
